Treasured Community

Why We’re Sponsoring YorkPA Q Connection—and Why Community Matters Now

When the world feels heavy, isolation can whisper that we’re safer alone. But everything in nature tells a different story: trees share nutrients through mycelial networks, rivers braid together, and prairies rebound through interdependence. Healing—personal and collective—happens in relationship.

That’s why we’re proud to sponsor YorkPA Q Connection, a local hub that uplifts LGBTQ+ community, resources, and joy in York, PA. Creating opportunities for gatherings, sharing support, and amplifying queer voices—aligns with our mission: to cultivate healing spaces where identity, spirituality, and embodied well-being are welcomed and affirmed.

What “community” means to us

At A Unified Mind, community isn’t a buzzword. It’s a living practice:

  • Belonging: Everyone deserves spaces where their whole self is welcome—identity, faith, grief, softness, power, and possibility.

  • Relational repair: We heal in connection. Boundaries, communication, and mutual care are spiritual practices.

  • Embodiment: We bring the wisdom of nature—breath, movement, sound, and ritual—into the ways we gather. Being together becomes medicine, not just a meeting.

Sponsoring YorkPA Q Connection is one more way we root those values locally. It’s a way to say: You matter. Your story matters. Your safety and joy matter. And we’re willing to invest in the conditions that help that truth take root.

Rev Dr. King, the Beloved Community, and the work ahead

As we honor MLK Day and move through Black History Month, we’re returning to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision of the Beloved Community—a social order where justice, care, and dignity are the norm. His words are not museum pieces; they’re instructions for right now:

“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere… Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly.” — Letter from Birmingham Jail, 1963

This is not just a moral statement—it’s an ecological one. In the forest of our shared life, extraction in one area weakens the whole system. Racism, transphobia, homophobia, antisemitism, Islamophobia, ableism—these are all forms of relational severing. To heal, we have to re-weave the web.

“We must all learn to live together as brothers or we will all perish together as fools.”

— Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution, 1959

Living together doesn’t mean sameness. It means cultivating the skills to be different and deeply connected—listening across experience, repairing when harm happens, redistributing resources, and choosing nonviolence as a courageous, disciplined path.

“But the end is reconciliation; the end is redemption; the end is the creation of the beloved community.”  — Facing the Challenge of a New Age

“The aftermath of nonviolence is the creation of the beloved community.”

— Nonviolence and Racial Justice

For us, these words set the direction. Sponsorship is not a finish line; it’s a step toward the after—the part where we keep showing up for each other until belonging is ordinary.

Why this matters—especially now

The past few years have deepened grief and polarization, and LGBTQ+ people—especially Black and Brown, trans and nonbinary folks—continue to face violence, erasure, and policy threats. In times like these, community is both sanctuary and strategy:

  • Sanctuary: Spaces of affirmation lower the nervous system’s alarm and make room for breath, story, and joy.

  • Strategy: Mutual aid, mentorship, and organizing turn care into change. Connection helps us respond to crises without burning out.

YorkPA Q Connection is doing this on the ground—making it easier for people to find each other, get support, and experience joy as a form of resistance. That’s why we’re with them.

How we’ll keep showing up

Our work will continue to weave personal healing with collective care. This season, that looks like:

  • Social Gatherings: Coffee Dates, Game Nights (or afternoons), Meetups at First Friday and other events and MORE!

  • Nature-based community offerings: forest-bathing circles, walk-and-talk meetups, and sound healing sessions that welcome all identities and honor safety, pacing, and consent.

  • Teachings and tools: on boundaries, courageous communication, nervous system regulation, and spiritual practice—so support is practical, not just inspirational.

  • Partnership & amplification: lifting up local LGBTQ+ resources and collaborating to make gatherings more accessible.

What you can do next

  • Join us at the next YorkPA Q Connection event. Come as you are. Bring a friend. (If you’re new, introduce yourself—community grows one hello at a time.)

  • Support Black LGBTQ+ leaders and organizations during Black History Month and beyond. Follow, donate, hire, invite, and credit the work you learn from.

  • Practice small, steady acts of belonging:

    • Ask pronouns and use them.

    • Intervene (safely) when you witness harm.

    • Share resources without gatekeeping.

    • Offer repair when you miss the mark.

    • Make space for rest and joy.

A closing prayer for the path

May we root like trees—flexible, not fragile.

May we remember the mycelium—quiet networks carrying life where it’s needed.

May our practices—breath, reflection, movement, and care—become bridges.

And may we keep building the beloved community here, together, one act of courage and kindness at a time.

We’re grateful to stand with those who identify as Queer or LGBTQ+ and allies! If you’re looking for a place to connect, heal, and grow—you have one here.

With care,

 A Unified Mind
